Lucknow ∙ With the strength of Ravindra Jade (57 not out in 40 balls) and MS Dhoni’s (28 not out in 9 balls) final touch, the Chennai Super Kings’ defense was destroyed by captain KL Rahul’s (82 in 53 balls) classic innings. Lucknow won by 8 wickets against Chennai in the IPL match at home.

After losing the toss, Chennai batted first and scored 176 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs, while Lucknow reached the target with the loss of 2 wickets in 19 overs. Rahul, who led the team from the front with a half-century, was the player of the match.

Easy Chase

With a target of 177 runs to win, Lucknow played aggressively from the start and the Chennai bowlers were on the defensive. With captain Rahul on one side and Quinton de Kock on the other finding their rhythm, Lucknow’s score soared.

The partnership added 54 runs without the loss of a wicket in the Powerplay and gave Lucknow a strong foundation by scoring 134 runs off 90 balls for the first wicket. Rahul’s innings consisted of 3 sixes and 9 fours in 53 balls. De Kock hit a six and 5 fours off 43 balls. After De Kock’s dismissal, Nicholas Puran (23 not out from 12 balls) batted in his usual style and took Lucknow to an easy win.

∙ Faltering, struggling Chennai

Chennai started with a shock as they lost opener Rachin Ravindra (0) at the beginning of the innings. With captain Rituraj Gaikwad (17) also returning, Chennai faltered. Ajinkya Rahane (36 off 24 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja added 35 runs for the second wicket, but Shivam Dubey (3) and Sameer Rizvi (1) got out quickly for Chennai. It was Dhoni who brought Chennai to a better score after falling to 90 for 5.
