India lost to Iran in the finals of the Asian Volleyball Championship in Chennai. The Under-20 Asian Championship Volleyball Tournament was held from August 22 to 29 in the West Asian country of Bahrain in Riba. 17 countries including India, South Korea, Iran and Thailand participated in it. The Indian men’s team, which showed excellent performance in each round, defeated Thailand in the semi-final and entered the final. In the final, the Indian team faced the strong Iranian team. The Iranian team won the first two rounds by 12-25, 19-25. The improved Indian team showed their excellent performance and won the third round with the score of 25-22. Thus, the game went to a lively stage. The exciting fourth round 15 – As -25, Iran took over. Iran won the gold medal. Indian team also won silver medal. With this, after 20 years, the Indian team won the silver medal in the Asian Under-20 Volleyball Championship. The captain of the Indian team, Dushyant Singh Jackar, who showed excellent performance in every round of the tournament, received the best ‘blocker’ award and another Indian player Karthikeyan the best ‘libero’ award. The silver medal in the tournament qualified India for next year’s World Under-21 Volleyball Championship.
