Pune – Ankit Malik, Raunak Chauhan and Abhinav Mangalam entered the main round of the Kumar Group International Grand Prix Badminton Tournament with brilliant performances. 32 places in singles and 24 places in doubles were decided on the last day from the qualifying round.

Riyana’s Ankit saw off Ishant Sherawat’s challenge 18-21, 21-16, 21-16 after a three-game battle. Ankit won the fight in 54 minutes. This turned out to be the longest fight of the day. Raunak also had to fight for 44 minutes to win. Raunak repelled Aditya Diwakar’s challenge 15-21, 21-12, 22-20.

In another match, Delhi’s Abhinav Mangalam defeated A.R. Stopped Rohan Kumar’s progress 22-24, 21-15, 21-4. The fight lasted for 49 minutes. Only Saad Dharmadhikari of Pune could enter the main round from the qualifying round.

Saad defeated Vaishnavi Sasha 21-11, 21-11 followed by Alisha Khan 9-21, 21-11, 21-9. But the rest of Pune’s players had to lose their challenge in the qualifying round itself.
