Pune, 3rd September 2022: In Qualifier 2 of the 1st Ultimate Kho Kho Tournament, Telugu Yoddhas produced a brilliant performance to defeat Gujarat Giants 67-44 by 23 points to reach the finals. Tomorrow, Sunday (September 4) at 7 PM, Odisha Juggernauts and Telugu Warriors will battle it out for the title.

In today’s Qualifier 2 match of the ongoing tournament at the Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge Balewadi, Prateek Waikar-led Telugu Yoddhas will now be called upon to maintain their consistent performance. Odisha Juggernauts reached the final by defeating Telugu Warriors in Qualifier 1 match.

The Telugu Warriors, who have been the best in attack earlier this season, dominated the Gujarat Giants team with an all-round performance. Trailing 21-39 at the mid-point, Gujarat tried to put up a tough fight in the third session. Abhinandan Patil saved 4 minutes 26 seconds to give Gujarat as many as 8 bonus points. Therefore, Telugu Warriors managed to score only 22 points in this session.

But even after the amazing performance of Abhinandan Patil, Telugu Yoddhas took a decisive lead of 61-29 at the end of the third session. Telugu Yoddhas sealed their victory by losing only 15 points in the last session. Not only this, Telugu Warriors became the first team to score 100 points while defending in the first season of Ultimate Kho Kho League. Earlier, the Telugu Warriors started with a very fast attack and scored 47 points in the first session, capturing 13 guards of Gujarat. Arun Gunky scored 14 points while dismissing five players.

In the second session, Gujarat Giants team adopted the power play and fielded two Wazirs. But Deepak Madhav saved Gujarat for 2 minutes 46 seconds and got 2 bonus points for Telugu Warriors. Despite Gujarat scoring 21 points, Telugu Yoddha Jal managed to take a 39-21 lead at the end of the first innings.

The winning team of the competition will be given a prize of Rs 1 crore and the runner-up team will be given Rs 50 lakh. 30 lakhs will be given to the Gujarat Giants team at the third position and Rs 20 lakhs to the Chennai Quick Guns team at the fourth position.
