The Asian Games is going to start from September 19 in Hangzhou, China. That means once again the eyes will be on stars like Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu and Bajrang Punia. The players will have medals around their necks and the Indian tricolor will wave on the field.

We have brought for you every information related to this 19th edition of the Asian Games, which will run from 23 September to 8 October.

There will be a total of 61 different sporting events in the Asian Games 2023. Out of these, India is participating in 41 events. The special thing is that popular sports like cricket and football will also be seen. India has fielded a strong contingent of 655 members in the Asian Games. All these sporting events will be organized at 56 venues in and around Hangzhou. In 2018, India had sent 570 members, who managed to bring 70 medals. There were 16 gold in it. This was India’s best season so far in terms of medals.

India has won the maximum number of medals (254) in athletics in the Asian Games. This includes 79 gold, 88 silver and 87 bronze medals. After this comes wrestling and shooting, in which 59 and 58 medals have come in India’s bag.

Indian cricket debut in Asian Games

The Indian cricket team (both men and women) is participating in the Asian Games for the first time. Before this, cricket was included in the games only twice in 2010 and 2014.

The matches of the women’s cricket team will start from 21st September and the final will be held on 25th September, while the matches of the men’s team will start from 27th September and the final will be held on 7th October. These matches will be played in T20 format. There will be no main players in the Indian men’s team, During this period, the main players will be busy in preparations for the ODI series against Australia and the World Cup. Rituraj Gaikwad is captaining the team playing in the Asian Games.

The men’s and women’s teams of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have been directly selected for the quarter-finals. Therefore, the first match of the men’s team will be played on 3 October and the first match of the women’s team will be played on 21 September.

In athletics, India has fielded the maximum number of 68 athletes. Among these, all eyes will be on Neeraj Chopra. He last won the gold medal in the Jakarta Asian Games in 2018. This time the final of javelin throw is on 4th October.

Five Olympic medal winning players from India are participating in Hangzhou, Neeraj Chopra is one of them. The remaining four names are- PV Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain, Bajrang Punia and Mirabai Chanu. The Indian hockey team, which won bronze in the Tokyo Olympics, is also participating in it.
