Trudeau said he had raised the issue with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G20 meeting held in India on September 9–10.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has accused the Indian government of killing a Sikh leader. Trudeau told the Canadian Parliament on Monday that Indian government agents had killed Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh community leader in British Columbia, Canada in June.

Trudeau also said that he had raised the issue with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G20 meeting held in India on September 9-10. He told that they are making such allegations on the basis of the intelligence information received by the Canadian government.

At the same time, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolly informed that the Canadian government has dismissed an Indian diplomat, who was the head of Indian Intelligence in Canada.

Trudeau said – will put pressure on India to cooperate in the investigation
Trudeau told MPs that any foreign government’s involvement in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is a violation of our country’s sovereignty. He said that he will put pressure on the Indian government to cooperate in the investigation of this murder.

Prime Minister Trudeau said that the large population of Sikhs of Indian origin living in Canada is angry about this murder. Many Sikhs are in fear for their safety. There are between 14 and 18 lakh citizens of Indian origin in the country, many of whom are Sikhs. Jagmeet Singh, leader of Canada’s opposition party New Democratic Party, is from the Sikh community.

Fear of further deterioration in relations between India and Canada due to this allegation
Relations between Canada and India are already tense. This allegation by the Canadian PM is likely to worsen relations between the two countries. Earlier this month, Canada had stopped talks regarding trade deal with India. At the same time, during G20, PM Modi had refused to hold bilateral talks with Justin Trudeau.
