A girl’s life was lost because the authorities were told that there are many potholes on the state highway on the Kasaragod – Chandragiri road, but they did not listen. On Sunday night, the bike went out of control on the Kasarkot-Kanhangad state highway near Chandragiripalam and fell into a ditch near the Pulikummal lock. Maheshchandra Baliga’s daughter Shivani Baliga (20) died in the accident at Sukhajyoti house in Kannur St. Michael School premises.

Ajit Kurup (20), son of Gopalakurup of Alappuzha Mayyalam, is in a private hospital in Mangaluru with injuries. Manorama had reported on the 16th about potholes on this road. A girl’s life was lost when the authorities pretended not to see this even though it was a wartime act. Had the pothole on the road been filled at least temporarily that day, such a big tragedy would not have happened.

8 bikes were involved in an accident between 11 am on Sunday and yesterday morning. This includes women and children. The road through Chandragiripalam is full of potholes. 3 potholes near Pulikun Junction are creating a danger trap. Most of the potholes were at the end of the interlocked section between Chandrigiri Bridge and Chandragiri Junction and at a distance of 5 meters from there to the bridge. It is common for two-wheeler riders to fall into potholes and get into accidents.

Cover the pit; After the accident

After the accident, the workers came yesterday on 11th and temporarily filled the potholes with jelly, but due to the rain and the passing of cargo vehicles, some stones were thrown into the filled pothole and another pothole was formed. Before the rain, there were only small holes. As it started raining, the pit increased in size. Even though various organizations and drivers informed the authorities of the repair department about this earlier, there was no result. Due to the construction work of the national highway, long-distance buses and goods vehicles ply on this road. The officials of the maintenance department informed that the rain has hindered the filling of potholes on the road. Officials said that only temporary filling of potholes was done yesterday.
