Visakhapatnam/Maharanipet, November 19 (Andhra Jyoti): A massive fire broke out in Visakhapatnam fishing harbor on Sunday midnight. It is estimated that more than 60 Marabots were burnt in this accident. After 11.30 pm, the fire broke out in team number zero. Within moments, the fire spread to other boats. Usually fishermen keep all their boats anchored in the harbour. The boats that went to the sea for hunting less than three days ago also reached the shore on Sunday evening. Among them, the fisheries worth lakhs of rupees are in the boats. They were to be auctioned in the morning. Fishermen say that each boat has fish worth about Rs.5 to Rs.6 lakh. AP Mara Boat Association President Vasupalli Janakiram told ‘Andhra Jyoti’ that they do not know how the accident happened. Unknown persons are suspected to have set the fire. Fishermen and locals were worried when a large fire broke out. Firefighters were immediately informed. Three available fire engines reached the spot and tried to control the fire. RDO Hussain Saheb took steps to bring three more shakats. But the danger increased as the sea breeze spread the fire to the nearby boats. Some of the fishermen bravely took their boats out to sea to reduce some of the damage. According to the information received till one o’clock in the midnight, it is estimated that the damage in the accident is around Rs.30 crores. There are usually no fishermen on the boats at night, but it is not known if anyone was on board at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, the fishermen are crying with tears as all their lifeboats are burning in front of their eyes.
