It has been informed by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection that a total of 222 paddy buying centers have been started in the major paddy producing districts of Vidarbha, 51 through Marketing Federation and 171 under Tribal Development Corporation.
Minimum Basic Price Purchase Scheme is a central government scheme for the benefit of farmers. Under this scheme, the central government announces the minimum support prices of various crops. In order to benefit the farmers from the base price and to prevent them from having to sell grain at a price lower than the guaranteed price (distress sale), the state government purchases the quality of paddy prescribed by the central government from the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection as well as coarse grains (sorghum, millet, maize and ragi). .
The Food Corporation of India acts as the “nodal agency” of the Central Government in the state of Maharashtra, while the implementation of the Minimum Base Price Purchase Scheme in the state of Maharashtra through the State Government on behalf of the Food Corporation of India is carried out by the Maharashtra State Cooperative Marketing Corporation, Mumbai (in non-tribal areas) and the Maharashtra State Cooperative Tribal Development Corporation, Nashik. (in tribal areas) is done through these two agent organizations.
A government decision has been issued on November 09, 2023 regarding the purchase of paddy and coarse grains in the marketing season 2023-24. Accordingly, there are instructions to purchase paddy from November 9, 2023 and bulk grain purchase from December 01, 2023.
The agent organization wise details of the procurement centers established so far in the major paddy producing districts of Vidarbha for paddy procurement are as follows: Marketing Federation has 31 procurement centers and Tribal Development Corporation has 36 procurement centers in Gondia district. 20 from marketing federation in Bhandara, 90 from tribal development corporation in Gadchiroli district, 35 from tribal development corporation in Chandrapur district, 2 from tribal development corporation in Nagpur, 8 from tribal development corporation in Amravati district, thus total 51 through marketing federation in major paddy producing districts of Vidarbha, total 171 from tribal development corporation. It has been informed through the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection that a total of 222 paddy purchase centers have been started in Vidarbha.
