Two killed in road accident in Odisha

Two people, including an 11-year-old boy, died in a road accident in Panikoili in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as 11-year-old Shivanand Mahapatra and 21-year-old Pooja Sahu.
Local sources said that the victims of the incident were going to Puri in an auto rickshaw with their family members for the darshan of Lord Jagannath. At around 4 am in the morning, a speeding van hit his vehicle from behind on National Highway 16 near a petrol pump in Panikoili police station area.
“Two people died on the spot, while our police personnel with the help of local people took other injured people to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.
Inspector in-charge of Panikoili police station said, DHH doctors later referred two other people to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack for advanced treatment. We have identified the vehicle involved in the accident and the accused driver will be arrested soon.
Local people alleged that seven people have died in different road accidents this year. However, the administration has not taken any steps to put up any signage at the spot or remove roadside vendors.
