Lifestyle: The three occupants of the van were crushed to death on the spot when a parcel truck collided head-on with a van in Vazhapadi, Salem district on Thursday morning.
A pickup van was coming from Chennai to Salem on the Salem-Chennai bypass near Vazhapadi East Forest on Thursday around 7 am when a parcel truck heading from Salem to Chennai unexpectedly collided head-on with the van. The van was crushed like a pancake by the speed of the lorry.
Praveen Kumar, a resident of Villupuram, who was driving the van, along with Arakonam Sudarsan and Kudiatham Prakasam, who were traveling with him, were crushed to death on the spot.

Parcel truck with front end damaged
On being informed about this, Vazhappadi police, fire brigade and customs officials joined forces, using a crane, recovered the three bodies and sent them to the government hospital for post-mortem.
Pachimuthu Pandian of Tirunelveli, who was seriously injured in the accident, has been admitted to Vazhapadi Government Hospital for treatment.
Police to dispose of accident vehicles
Vazhappadi Deputy Superintendent of Police DSP Harishankari and Police Inspector Umashankar who came to the spot after receiving information about this horrific accident are conducting an investigation.
The accident disrupted traffic on the Salem-Chennai National Highway for an hour. The police removed the accident vehicles and normalized the traffic.
Three people died on the spot in a road accident that occurred on Thursday morning, causing tragedy in the area.
