Taiwan Earthquake: An earthquake rocked Taiwan on Monday night. More than 80 tremors were felt on the east coast of the country between 5 pm and early night on Monday. Among these, the strongest tremors were of magnitude 6.3 and 6. According to Indian time, both these strong tremors were felt at around 2:26 and 2:32 pm on Monday late night. The Meteorological Department said the epicenter of the earthquake was 5.5 kilometers below the ground in Hulien County
No damage to life and property
Two buildings were damaged in Hulien due to the tremors, one of which collapsed completely and the other leaned towards the road. Mild tremors were also felt in neighboring countries China, Japan and the Philippines. However, the relief is that there are no reports of loss of life or property in these earthquakes. Among the buildings that were damaged by the earthquake was the first hotel. However, both these buildings were down and not being used.
There was an earthquake 20 days ago
This is the second time earthquake tremors have been felt in Taiwan this month. Earlier on April 3, an earthquake of magnitude 7.5 struck the country in which 14 people died. The epicenter of this earthquake, which occurred 20 days ago, was also the city of Hulien in Taiwan. Many buildings in the country were damaged in this earthquake. Many people were buried in the debris. Later, the rescue workers pulled out the people buried in the debris. Two Indians were also reported missing after the April 3 earthquake in Taiwan. However, they were later found safe.
Susceptibility to Taiwan earthquakes
Taiwan is considered to be vulnerable to earthquakes. Earthquakes are often felt here. Actually Taiwan is such a country that is located at the junction of tectonic plates. This is the reason why there is a danger of earthquake here. Earlier in 1999, more than 100 people were killed in an earthquake here. The magnitude of this earthquake was measured at 7.6 on the Richter scale. In the year 2016, there was a powerful earthquake in Taiwan, in which more than 2000 people were killed.
