The lawyer’s name is Michael Cohen and he was later jailed on various charges.

These allegations came to light in 2018. At the time, Donald Trump denied having any kind of sexual relationship with Stormy Daniels.

Stormy Daniels has said in media interviews that she and Donald Trump met in July 2006 at a charity golf tournament.

She alleged that Donald Trump and she once had sex in a hotel room at Lake Tahoe, a resort located between California and Nevada. At the time, Trump’s lawyer strongly denied Daniels’ accusation.

Daniels says she took the money because she was concerned about her family’s safety. She further states that she was threatened with death and legal action to keep quiet.

In 2018, a stranger met Daniels and her baby boy in a Las Vegas parking lot. The man threatened Daniels to stay away from Trump.

Daniels says the incident happened shortly after she agreed to an interview with In Touch magazine about the alleged affair.

Describing the incident in front of the baby, Daniels says the stranger said, “This is a beautiful little girl.” If anything had happened to her mother, it would be a shame.”

In an interview given to ‘CBS 60 Minutes’, Daniels described this incident.

Before the interview aired, Daniels was threatened by a fake company associated with Cohen. The company threatened to sue Daniels for $2 million. The company claimed that Daniels had broken a deal with them to remain silent.

Stormy Daniels said on CBS that she was risking millions of dollars in fines by speaking to a national broadcaster. “But being able to defend myself was very important to me.”

The interview Daniels gave to In Touch was not published in full until 2018, three months before the 60 Minutes interview.

Paying to remain silent about an illegal act or confidential matter is not illegal. But in this case, prosecutors focused on the way Cohen deposited the money into Trump’s account. Trump falsified business records to show the amount as expenses for legal matters.

This amount was given a few days before the US presidential elections. District Magistrate Alvin Bragg alleged that Trump attempted to cover up the crimes by concealing vote-influencing information.

Cohen was jailed in August 2018. Cohen was convicted of tax evasion and campaign finance violations. Part of this had to do with paying Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about her relationship with Trump.

Although Cohen initially denied Trump’s involvement in the case, Cohen later testified under oath that it was Trump who told Daniels to pay the $130,000.

Cohen said the president had repaid it.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of making false business records in criminal court in Manhattan.

Donald Trump, the main campaigner of the Republican Party, will have to repeatedly withdraw from the campaign because of this hearing. Because the hearing of this case is likely to last up to six weeks.

Donald Trump has vowed to attend court hearings during the day and campaign at night. As an accused in a criminal case, Trump is required by law to appear in court.

Judge Juan Mercan has already threatened to issue a warrant if Trump fails to appear in court. Due to this, Trump’s election campaign is likely to be complicated.

“But even a criminal conviction will not stop Trump from campaigning for president,” says the BBC’s North America correspondent Anthony Zurker.

He further says, “There is no legal provision in the US legal system that prevents a convicted felon from campaigning for the presidency and preventing him from running from prison.”
