Pathanamthitta ∙ Yadu Krishnan, a victim of unscrupulous road construction, is still in critical condition at his home in Murupel Musharet, Vallikode. Yadu, who was being treated with the help of a ventilator at the private medical college hospital in Thiruvalla, was shifted to a private hospital in Vaikam yesterday for further treatment.
Two weeks ago, Yadu was injured when he slipped on a lock on the road near Vallikode Theater Junction and fell on top of an iron bar on an old concrete slab adjacent to an uncovered drain nearby. Yadu was seriously injured by the wire sticking in his head and underwent surgery. Now the right leg and hand started moving but Yadu could not recognize anyone. So far more than 7 lakh rupees have been spent on Yadu’s treatment. Follow-up treatment also requires a huge amount of money.
The day after the accident, the locals blocked the road. Following this, the road construction contractor had assured that he would bear the medical expenses. But Yadu’s family says that promise has not been fulfilled yet. Janishkumar MLA and Collector Dr. Divya S. Iyer intervened in the matter. But their interventions have not yielded results yet. The medical expenses are still being met with the money raised by friends, locals and family members.
May the gods hear Kashinath’s prayers
Ampotee, kochachchne kathone…’, is the prayer of two-and-a-half-year-old Kashinath for Yadu. Kashinath was on the bike with Yadu when the accident happened. Kashinath fell into the stream and escaped with minor injuries.
Even after 18 days of the accident, mother Sheelakumari saw Yadu only once. ‘As soon as I saw my baby lying on the ventilator, I called ‘Shambhuve’ and patted him, and by then he was holding my hand tightly. Kashinath’s father Sujith also said loudly, ‘I am not with you’. Yadu, who was lying motionless, started crying. Sheelakumari also remembers that it was then that Yadu moved for the first time after the accident.
The accident took place when Yadu, who returned home due to the spread of Covid, was waiting to get a ticket to return abroad. Yadu’s engagement was also decided on the third day of the incident.
