The Maduraikota Railway Administration has given an explanation regarding the derailment of Potigai Express engine near Madurai railway station.
The daily Potigai Express train from Chennai to Sengottai was arriving at Madurai railway station at 4.15 this morning as usual. At that time, the work of replacing the engine of Potikai Express was carried out on the track under the Madurai Coats Bridge in front of the Madurai Railway Station. Then unexpectedly while moving the engine, the engine derailed.
After this, the railway staff acted quickly in front of the railway authorities and arranged for a replacement engine, and the train departed late. Due to this accident, special trains from Secunderabad, Palani and Theni have been delayed.
The Maduraikotta Railway Administration has explained about this, “Chennai Senkotta Potikai Express train to Madurai is operated by electric engine. This train is usually replaced with a diesel engine at Madurai. Similarly, engine change was done early this morning. Then when the electric locomotive removed from this train went to stop near the parcel office, three wheels derailed and derailed. Engine Power on the line was shut down for safety at 07.25 am for 20 minutes for repairs.
It has been reported that due to the derailment of the train engine, the trains to go on the Dindigul route were delayed. Also, the Madurai-Secunderabad special train left Madurai late by one hour, Vaigai Express by 10 minutes, Palani special train by 9 minutes and Theni special train by 32 minutes, the information said.
