Delhi: Restrictions on domestic air fares end. In the first week of August, the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that the restrictions imposed on domestic air fares will be lifted. After 27 months, the Center is lifting the restrictions.

With this, airlines can decide the fares. Air travelers are mostly affected by this. As the financial crisis deepened following the Covid pandemic, there was a lower ceiling to protect vulnerable airlines and a higher ceiling to protect passengers from higher fares. This ends today.
The ministry has clarified that even if the fare control ends, airlines and airport operators must ensure strict adherence to guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and strict enforcement of norms during travel.

Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had tweeted that the domestic aviation sector has started to stabilize after the Covid pandemic and the sector is confident of growth in domestic traffic in the near future.
What were the controls?
For domestic flights of less than 40 minutes duration, the customer can be charged less than Rs.2,900 (excluding GST) and more than Rs.8,800 (excluding GST).

Why remove the price cap?
The decision was taken in view of the recent drop in jet fuel prices. It is also comforting that the region has been able to overcome the Covid crisis.
Will domestic flight tickets cost more?
Technically, since there are no pricing caps, airlines are free to set their own prices. However, to attract more passengers, airlines may sometimes reduce the price of flight tickets.
