Kochi: The High Court will today rule on the petitions filed by Adani Group and contracting company Howe Engineering seeking security for the construction of Vizhinjam port. Justice Anu Sivaraman will pronounce the verdict at 1.45 pm. Adani Group has informed the High Court that the port construction has stalled due to the strike. The petitioners stated that despite the protesters entering the high security zone and causing damage, the police stood by.

However, the government has informed the court that the construction cannot be stopped because of the strike. The government has clarified that the protest is aimed at pregnant women and children and therefore, harsh measures cannot be taken against the protestors. The argument of the opposite parties in the petition is that the strike will significantly affect the lives of the fishermen and the construction will not be allowed without following the conditions.

At the same time, the cabinet has decided to pay house rent of Rs 5500 per month to those living in camps in Vizhinjath. The flat will be built on the spot found in Muttatha. The government’s announcement is part of its promise to implement puradhivasam before Onam while the struggle against Vizhinjam port continues. The government will provide Rs 5500 per month to 335 families living in the camps to shift to rented houses. Flat construction will be completed in time on eight acres of land found in Muttatha.

Tenders will be invited from manufacturers for this. The cabinet has also decided to implement the rehabilitation package quickly. But the Port Strike Committee is adamant that the Chief Minister despises the coastal fishermen. The strike committee says that who will pay the advance amount for renting the house and will proceed with the strike.

The strike committee has made it clear that the strike will be intensified and will not withdraw from the strike without stopping the construction of the port. Fishermen of various parishes besieged the Poowar police station in protest against police beating of protesting priests. The torch lit protest started from Karumkulam church and ended in front of Poowar station.
