Activists dancing unconsciously to the beat of drums and sandals, devotees swaying to the beat of the DJ, different drum corps and grand processions…such was the scene of this year’s Ganesh Advent procession. Due to Corona, Ganesha could not come for two years. Due to this, the joy of the devotees was spoiled. This year, the joy of the devotees was raised due to the Corona-free environment.

The timing of Ganesha installation was from 6:30 am to 3:30 pm. Ganesha was installed in every household with joy and excitement. The usual excitement was overflowing in the market. There were shops for Ganesha decorations and worship materials. Ganesha devotees thronged the market. Markets were overflowing with Ganesha devotees. Many people brought home-made Ganesha idols on Tuesday night itself.

On the beat of Sandal

As soon as the sandal, which consists of a team of at least 25 to 30 people, starts playing, even those who cannot dance join the rhythm. Sandal is a variant of Tasha from Dhol Tasha. The sandal team of Babulgaon is in high demand. This is a generational business of Syed Noorbhai of Babhulgaon in Yavatmal district. This tasha is played with sticks made of wood and umbrella strings.

Tasha used to be covered with leather. Now motor winding paper is applied. Sandal is characterized by starting very slowly and gradually increasing the speed and intensity of the sound. Ganesh devotees have left no stone unturned this year.

279 Boards allowed

There are usually 12 Ganesha Mandals every year. But, this year till August 30, 279 boards have been given permission. 230 Ganesha mandals of height above 4 feet and 132 of lesser height were allowed.

A one-and-a-half-day Ganpati immersion will be held from September 1 on Thursday. Considering that, the Municipal Corporation has arranged artificial lakes in the city. The police have made strict arrangements. Many people installed Ganesha at home through YouTube.
