Palakkad ∙ Ganesha idol immersion procession today. The Shobhayatra led by the District Ganeshotsava Committee will start at 2.30 pm from Moothanthara Kannaki Temple premises and will go around the city and reach Chinmaya Tapovanam Junction near Victoria College.
Nimajjana Mahasobhayatra, which will begin here, will be inaugurated by Swami Chidanandapuri, abbot of Kulathur Advaita Ashram. BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai will deliver the keynote address. Officials of the District Ganeshotsava Committee informed that more than three hundred Ganesha idols will be lined up in Sobhayatra. Special pujas were held in temples yesterday on the occasion of Vinayaka Chaturthi. Immersion processions will also be held at other places in the district.
Traffic control at Palakkad and Mannarkat
There will be traffic control in and around Palakkad town from 3 pm today as Ganesha idol immersion procession is taking place.
∙ All buses from Thrissur and Vadakancheri section should reach KSRTC bus stand via Kannanur-Tirunellai and return.
∙ Buses and other vehicles from Chittoor and Vandithavalam should arrive at Stadium Bus Stand via Katankode-Chandranagar-Kalmandapam and return via this route.
∙ Private buses and other vehicles from Kozhikode, Mannarkkad, Mundur and Malampuzha should arrive at Stadium Bus Stand via Olavakode-Pezhungara-Meparum via KSRTC-Mission School-IMA and return via this route.
∙ Buses from Walayar, Kanchikode and Kozhinjampara should reach Stadium Bus Stand via Chandranagar-Kalmandapam and return.
∙ All buses from Pattambi, Ottapalam, Shornur, Kotai, Pootur and Peringotukurussi areas should terminate their service near the Convent and return.
∙ Nothing except emergency vehicles will be allowed at all blocking points after 3 pm. The traffic police informed that two-wheelers will not be allowed through.
Traffic will be controlled from Kuntipuzha to Nellippuzha from 3 o’clock as Sobhayatras carrying Ganesha idols from various places converge at Nellipuzhha and proceed through Kuntipuzha Bypass as Mahashobhayatra. Mannarkkad police inspector informed that the big vehicles coming from Perinthalmanna side should turn from Aryambav and go via Srikrishnapuram and the vehicles from Palakkad should go via Mundur and Kongad Kadambazhipuram.
