Chennai: BAMA President Anbumani Ramadoss said that as crimes against children are increasing, steps should be taken to control them.
He said on his Twitter page today: “It is alarming that the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has reported that crimes against children in Tamil Nadu have increased by 39.80% in 2021 compared to the previous year. Tamil Nadu should not become a state where children do not deserve to live.
6,064 crimes against children were reported in one year. Of these, 4465 were POCSO cases. 69 children were killed. Three were sexually assaulted and killed. 99.25% of victims are girls.
The statistics on atrocities committed against girl children in Tamil Nadu are heart-wrenching. These figures corroborate the complaints raised by Bamakha in the past that crimes against women-children are on the rise.
The primary task of a state government is to create a safe environment for women and children. Tamilnadu government should fulfill that duty. Strict measures should be taken to control crimes against women and children,” said Anbumani.
