New Delhi. Mushfiqur Rahim, the star batsman and wicketkeeper of the team, who suffered a crushing defeat in two consecutive matches in the Asia Cup 2022, has announced his retirement from T20 International. However, the former Bangladesh captain will continue to play ODI and Test cricket. Apart from this, Raheen also wants to continue playing franchise cricket. 35-year-old Rahim has played 102 T20 matches for Bangladesh. He has scored 1500 runs with the help of 6 half-centuries. Rahim, who made his debut for Bangladesh in the year 2005, has also played 82 Tests and 236 ODIs.
Rahim was not in form in T20 cricket for some time. Mushfiqur, who has been in a bad shape, has scored double-digit runs only thrice in the last 10 T20Is. He could only score five runs in two matches in the Asia Cup. Bangladesh played its first match against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022. In this match, Rahim, who landed at number four, got out after scoring just one run in four balls. At the same time, in the do or die match against Sri Lanka, he could only score four runs in five balls. Apart from this, an important catch was also dropped during the match.
Jaan Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh’s middle order announced his retirement on his Twitter account. He tweeted, “I announce my retirement from T20 Internationals to focus on Test and ODI formats of the game. I will be available to play the franchise league when the opportunity comes. Looking forward to proudly representing my country in two formats.”
Rahim is at number two in the list of players who have played the most T20 International matches for Bangladesh. Only Mahmudullah (121) has played more matches than him. He also captained the Bangladesh team in 23 T20 matches between 2011 and 2014.
