Penalty on Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam: A very interesting case has come to light in Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) in Tirumala, Tamil Nadu where the Consumer Court has ordered to pay a fine of Rs 45 lakh to the temple for not seeing a devotee for 14 years. Every year crores of devotees come to visit Tirupati Devasthanam in Tirumala, the world famous temple.

Here people get their booking done for darshan months in advance, but if a devotee did not get the booking (TTD Booking) for darshan there for 14 years, then he reached the consumer court against TTD. After hearing the matter, the court has ordered the TTD to either give the devotee a new date of booking for darshan or give him Rs 45 lakh as compensation.

What is the whole matter?
According to a report published in the Times of India, a person named KR Hari Bhaskar had booked for Vastralankara service in the year 2006 for Rs 12,250. After this the temple gave him slot booking in the year 2020 but due to Corona epidemic the temple remained closed for 80 days. Then even after the opening of the temple, all the earned service including Vastralankara was banned.

In such a situation, the temple canceled Bhaskar’s booking and gave him the option of VIP break darshan or refund. After this Bhaskar asked to reschedule the Vastralankara service, but the temple administration was not ready for this and asked to take a refund. In such a situation, KR Hari Bhaskar reached the Consumer Court in Salem, Tamil Nadu regarding this matter.

Case filed against TTD
Bhaskar filed his complaint in the Consumer Court of Salem. After this, after hearing the whole matter in the court, it has been decided that either TTD should return the amount of Rs 12,250 from the temple body to Bhaskar at the rate of 6% interest every year from 2006 till date. Along with this, pay a fine of 45 lakh rupees for not having darshan at the right time or fix a new date for the devotee for Vastralankara service.
