Shastamkota ∙ The police have started an investigation into the incident in which a graduate student Abhirami (20) took his own life after being disheartened by the Kerala Bank putting up a foreclosure board in front of his house. Shastamkota DYSP S. Rural SP KB Ravi informed that the investigation is under the leadership of Sharif. A widespread protest took place yesterday over the suicide incident. A demonstration by various political parties yesterday in front of the Kerala Bank Pataram branch, where Abhirami’s father Ajikumar had taken a loan, turned violent. The protest started in the morning and continued into the night.
The bank was not open yesterday due to the protest.
Congress-Youth Congress, RSP-RYF, ABVP activists and National Janata Dal district committee came to the bank to protest slogans against Kerala Bank, government and CPM. Traffic on the Pataram-Karunagapally road was completely disrupted. Police arrested and removed 5 ABVP activists who tried to enter the closed bank. The RSP activists, who came to demonstrate at Kokkiyat Junction, burnt the effigy of Kerala Bank President Gopi Kottamurikal.
The Congress-Youth Congress workers who came as a demonstration from the market junction were stopped by the police barricade 50 meters away from the bank. The police beat up the activists who tried to cross the barricade which led to the conflict. At night, Youth Congress workers carried a coffin and staged a protest at Pataram Junction. Suranad police said that a case has been registered against the activists of various parties.

Shuranad ∙ Kerala Bank Pataram branch closed indefinitely due to continuous protests. The bank was not functioning after the girl’s death. In the wake of the clashes, police security at the bank has been increased.
