In Vellore, a woman was burnt to death by pouring petrol on her body.
Thilakavathi (32), wife of Gopi, a firecracker factory worker, died in Kudiatham area of Vellore district. He and Sonda Ramesh (40) from the same area have become friends. Ramesh, who is a cloth merchant, rented a house alone on Ramakrishna Street, Mullipalayam, Vellore. Here, Tilakavathy is seen as a frequent visitor.
In this situation, Thilakavathy came to the house where Ramesh was staying on Friday morning. After some time, after hearing screams from the house, Ramesh ran out and fell into the drain while his body was on fire. When the people there went inside the house, they found Tilakavathi lying with burn injuries tied to the bed.
By then, Ramesh had gone to the hospital in an auto. Unable to bear the pain caused by the burn, Ramesh got down from the auto and jumped into the water of the fort when he came near the fort. Seeing this, the public rescued Ramesh and sent him to the government hospital. Tilakavathi was also rescued and sent to the government hospital.
On receiving the information, the Vellore North Police went to the spot and conducted an investigation. In this, due to a dispute between Tilakavathy and Ramesh, Ramesh tried to kill Tilakavathy by pouring petrol on her body and then it came to light that Ramesh’s body also caught fire.
Meanwhile, Thilakavathy died in the hospital on Friday evening. Police are investigating the incident.
