Chennai: Today marks the 94th birth anniversary of serial Tamil orator Silamboli S. Chellappan, creator of the Classical Content Research Repository.
Born in Sivyampalayam, Namakkal district, Chellappan stayed in an inn in Trichy district and achieved the feat of being the first graduate of his town. He rose as a teacher, head teacher, Salem District Education Officer, Sirani magazine editor and worked hard to create three World Tamil Conference flowers.
He became an Assistant Director in the Tamil Development Department and was promoted to Director. Since then, he has held various responsibilities at Tanjore Tamil University as Registrar, Director of World Tamil Research Institute, Chairman of Tamil Scholars’ Committee, Coordinator of Tamil Scholars’ Council, Member of Semmozhi No. Dean’s Committee.
Also, Chellappan, who has edited more than a thousand books, has made a record of delivering more than 20 series of Tamil discourses. Chellappan was a nobleman who did not take any money for lectures till the end.

He started Silapathikara Foundation and used to give awards and cash prizes. Former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was given ‘Elango’ award and a prize of Rs.1 lakh. S. Chellappan created the classical content research repository with his own money of Rs.15 lakhs and 10 years of hard work.
