Uttar Pradesh News: In Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun, a man had to spend 10 hours in police custody for killing a rat by drowning it in water. The accused has been identified as Manoj Kumar. At the same time, the police is further investigating this matter. However, circle officer Alok Mishra said that the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act does not apply in the case, as rats do not come under the category of animals. Circle officer said, we have sought legal opinion in the matter and action will be taken accordingly.

Further, the officer said that animal activist Vikendra Sharma had lodged a complaint in the matter. Vikender said in his complaint, I saw that the accused was torturing a rat by tying a stone to its tail and drowning it in drain water. When accused Manoj Kumar asked, he replied that he would repeat this act. The complainant said that he tried to rescue the rat but could not succeed.

The complainant himself gave Rs 225 for the investigation
Interestingly, the police recovered the dead rat and sent it to a veterinary hospital for postmortem, but the veterinary hospital staff refused to conduct an autopsy. After this, the dead rat was sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly, about 60 km from Budaun. Another police officer said that the IVRI officials have sought a week’s time for the postmortem report. He said that the complainant himself paid Rs 225 for the examination of the dead rat.
