
Cultural activist Razak Payambrot was found hanging on the porch of Malappuram Pulikal gram panchayat office. He was 57 years old. Locals lamented that the panchayat refused to take action against the plastic waste treatment plant responsible for the death of the former secretary of Kondotti Mahakavi Moinkutty Vaidyar Mapilakala Akademi, Razzaq Mothasahodaran. The police said that it is believed that he had hanged himself after reaching the panchayat building last night. The body was found this morning. The file of Razak’s complaints to the panchayat was found near the hanging.
His brother died a few months ago due to lung disease. Razak held several press conferences to show that the panchayat authorities were ignoring the complaints made in this regard, alleging that the smoke from the waste treatment plant near his house was the cause of his ill health.
