The drive by the Lakhimpur Police against fake gold smugglers, Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) continues in Bongalmora area of the district ever since Anand Mishra took charge as the Superintendent of Police (SP). To tackle the menace of fake gold and currency notes, the new SP on Monday launched its first operation and detained three criminals in connection with smuggling of fake gold.
He then warned the fake gold and fake gold smugglers to surrender before the police or face strict action. In this regard, the SP also started a helpline number- 6000815799, so that people can directly complain or report fake gold business.
Police sources told this correspondent that since then a total of 54 fake gold smugglers have surrendered before the Lakhimpur Police on reaching Nauboicha, Bongalmora Police Station and Laluk Police Station. Five of these fake gold smugglers have already been sent to jail. They have been identified as Abul Kalam Azad (32) s/o Ameer Ali r/o Mohghuli Borghula, Ainul Haq (23) s/o Harej Ali r/o Mohghuli Borghula, Ansar Ali (21) s/o Abdul Hai r/o. Aminur Rahman (21), resident of Mohghuli Borghula, son of Hussain Ali, resident of No. 2 Mohghuli and Ishadul Alom (23), son of Abdul Matin, resident of No. 2 Mohghuli.
Notably, Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh, during a press conference held in Guwahati regarding the sudden and untimely death of Morikolang outpost in-charge on May 20, in response to complaints of large-scale counterfeit gold and currency note syndicates had promised to do. -cum-sub-inspector (SI) Junmoni Rabha, who has just created a significant uproar in Assam.
Just a day after Assam DGP GP Singh vowed to “finish” fake currency and gold smuggling in Assam, police detained 11 people from Sonitpur district on suspicion of their involvement in fake gold smuggling. According to sources, the suspects were nabbed at several places across the district including Tezpur, Borghat, Chariduar and Bhalukjarani. Along with this, pieces of fake gold have also been found from their possession. On the other hand, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has already nabbed Asgar Ali, an alleged fake gold seller, which is considered to be an important milestone in connection with the investigation into SI Junmoni Rabha’s death case.
